Sonata in D major for violin solo (Prokofiev)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sonata in D major op.115 for violin solo is a chamber music work by the Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev from 1947.

Prokofiev wrote the Sonata in D major op. 115 for violin solo for the unison playing of an ensemble of young violinists who played solo concertos by Bach, Handel and other composers in unison. The idea arose in him of writing a Soviet work especially for a violin unison. Prokofiev chose for his Sonata a cameo-like form of three sets, a Allegro in sonata form, slow variations and rapid finale, all accessible in a simple, young musicians facture .
