Time supplements are supplements to the agreed remuneration that compensate for work at special times.

Time allowances are to be distinguished from hardship allowances which are intended to compensate for particular difficulties in the work. Time bonuses are paid for working on Sundays and public holidays or other days like Saturdays or Christmas Eve or New Year's Eve , also for work at night and for extra work that goes beyond the regular working hours (overtime). Time bonuses are usually paid in the amount of a certain percentage of the hourly remuneration. Instead of a time bonus in money, time compensation (free time compensation) can also be granted.

Germany

The right to be able to request a time allowance arises from a collective agreement or the employment contract . Night workers are entitled to an appropriate number of paid days off for the hours worked during the night in accordance with Section 6 (5) of the Working Hours Act or an appropriate addition to the gross wages they are entitled to.

The surcharge for work on Sundays, public holidays and night is exempt from taxes and social security contributions up to certain maximum limits.

Special forms of work performed within the framework of TVÖD / TV-L are compensated with a corresponding surcharge for the one-hour portion of the table pay of level 3 of the respective pay group. If daily surcharges come together, only the highest is paid; Overtime and night surcharges will be paid additionally.

Other collective agreements are often based on the TVÖD / TVL regulations and often only deviate from them in detail. For example, the TV-Ärzte / VKA sometimes sets the highest tariff level as a reference value instead of level 3, Asklepios only pays 10% night surcharge.
