The Soviet-Finnish non-aggression pact was an international treaty between the Soviet Union and Finland signed in 1932 between representatives of both countries. It provided for the renunciation of the mutual attack and was unilaterally withdrawn by the Soviet Union on November 28, 1939. Two days later the Soviet invasion of Finland began . After the Japanese invasion of Manchuria, the Soviet Union had signed a number of non-aggression treaties with neighboring states to secure its borders. When the pact with Finland was signed on January 21, 1932, an agreement had already been reached with Poland, Estonia and Lithuania. The signatories were the Finnish Foreign Minister Aarno Yrjö-Koskinen and the Soviet Ambassador in Helsinki Iwan Michailowitsch Maiski . However, the pact with Finland was the first to be ratified (July 1932). The pact was extended in Moscow on April 7, 1934 to December 31, 1945.

After the Soviet Union had agreed with the German Reich in the German-Soviet non-aggression pact on the division of Eastern Europe, the Soviet dictator Stalin began preparing an attack on Finland. The Soviets staged a false flag operation, shelled their own village and accused Finland of being responsible for the shelling (so-called Mainila incident ). On November 28, 1939, the Soviet Union unilaterally revoked the pact. Finland wanted an independent commission to investigate the Mainila incident. The Soviet Union refused and attacked Finland two days later.
