Social manager is a profession whose area of ​​activity is in non-profit organizations , social organizations, institutions and services or public administrations.

Social managers lead organizations and / or develop social institutions. They take into account legal principles, economic efficiency and financing. Other key areas of work are business administration, finance and accounting, fundraising, personnel management and development, organizational management and development, controlling, management, social marketing and the application of industry-specific business management instruments.

The training to become a social manager is primarily an advanced training course for staff from the educational, social or nursing fields. The training course provides theoretical and practical knowledge that should enable a graduate of a measure to manage an institution.

At the moment there are two ways to learn the profession of social manager:

  • via a qualification measure, successful graduates receive a certificate from the training provider
  • through a university of applied sciences, successful graduates can graduate with a diploma social manager or a master’s degree.

The training usually lasts between six months and three years.
