Spool (from Old High German spuola "split piece of wood", for winding up threads) stands for:

  • Coil (electrical engineering) , a passive electrical component that forms an inductance by winding a conductor and concentrates a magnetic field when a current flows
  • Spool (roll) , a roll for winding a thread, wire or other linearly extended object or also a clay, magnetic or other tape
  • part of the bird's feather in biology, namely the lower (thickest and hollow) part of the quill previously used for writing
