Split ballot
The split ballot (experiment) or split questionnaire (also method split ) is a research design of survey research .
Goal setting
Bifurcated surveys are used to examine instrument effects. A sample is randomly divided into two or more sub- samples (sub-samples) (“fork”). The sub-samples are then examined with different versions of surveys, for example by rearranging the questions in a questionnaire to identify or avoid question context effects .
They are used to check the influence of different question formulations on the answers, because apparently insignificant changes to a formulation change answer patterns sometimes drastically.
For the evaluation of questions, the split survey aims to get a decision for the question variant that will ultimately be used. For this purpose, a preliminary field investigation with split questioning should be used, with a sample size of at least 100 interviews.
