St. George's Monastery

The St. George's Monastery or Jurjew Monastery (Russian Свято-Юрьев монастырь ) is a Russian Orthodox monastery near Veliky Novgorod in Russia. It is one of the oldest monasteries of the Kievan Rus and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site with the old town of Novgorod.

The monastery is said to have been founded in 1030 by Grand Duke Jaroslaw the Wise (christened Georg). It was first mentioned in writing for 1119.
