The St. Remigius Hospital Opladen is a hospital in Leverkusen and is sponsored by the Kplus Group . With the St. Josef Hospital Wiesdorf (special clinic for geriatrics) the house has a second location. Both locations have more than 600 employees. Every year around 12,000 inpatients and 25,000 outpatients are treated here.

history

The initiative to build a hospital in Opladen came from the Catholic parish of St. Remigius. In order to acquire the necessary capital for a new building, the community sold the so-called Old Monastery in the Altstadtstrasse, the previous center of outpatient nursing. Donations from pious citizens, financial aid from the city administration and individual industrial companies quickly filled the building fund, so that construction could begin on what was then Rennbaumstrasse - today An St. Remigius. The new hospital dedicated to St. Joseph was opened on February 20, 1891. The nursing of the sick was taken over by the Sisters of the Order of the Poor Maidservants of Jesus Christ, who had been working successfully in Opladen.

After the merger of Opladen with Leverkusen in 1975, confusion with the Leverkusen St. Josef Hospital should be avoided. As a result, the hospital took over the name of the parish priest St. Remigius and was then called Remigius Hospital Opladen. The house has belonged to the Kplus Group since 2009 and is now called St. Remigius Hospital Opladen.
