The St. Martin de Porres Catholic Cemetery (formerly: St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery ) is a burial site near the small Texas town of Waller . It is located about three kilometers south of the city on Farm Road 362. The saint is named after the Dominican brother Martin de Porres .

history

The cemetery began at the end of the 19th century. The first Czech immigrants to settle in the area acquired farmland from Galveston -based land developer EH Fordtran in 1891 . Four Czech families built a church dedicated to the Virgin Mary in 1892 . A Catholic cemetery was established under Pastor A. Laska on a piece of land donated by Frank Divin, Sr. The first burial was that of Antone Blinka in 1893. For two years the parish set up a protected area in the four adjacent fields. The development of the settlement stalled after a devastating storm in 1900. In 1947 the church was closed.

In 1977 St. Martin de Porres Church in Prairie View took over the maintenance of the cemetery.
