St. Walpurgis (Helmstedt)
St. Walpurgis is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Helmstedt in Lower Saxony .
The church was once the parish church of the village of Strevelingerode, which belonged to the St. Ludgeri monastery at the end of the 10th century . It was first mentioned as a chapel in 1160. As early as 1220, the church was included in the urban area of Helmstedt with the construction of the city wall. With the introduction of the Reformation, St. Walpurgis was no longer used as a parish church, but as a side church of St. Stephani in Helmstedt, so that from then on baptisms and weddings no longer took place here.
