The Sochi State University (SSU) ( Russian Сочинский государственный университет ) is a university in the southern Russian city of Sochi . The university was only founded in 1989 as an independent university, but various predecessor institutes had existed since the 1960s. According to its own information, it now has around 7,500 students.
history
For a long time there was no university of its own in the city of Sochi, only branches of other Russian universities. In 1989, the Sochi branch of the Kuban State Technical University became an independent university and was renamed the “State Institute for Spas and Tourism Sochi”. In 1997 the Sochier branch of the St. Petersburg Pedagogical University was incorporated into this institute . The now greatly enlarged institute was given the status of a university and was named “State University for Tourism and Health Resorts Sochi”, based on its subject area. In the following years, however, it developed more and more into a full university, so that in 2011 it was decided to rename it to its current name.
The university has a branch in Anapa, around 350 kilometers away .
With the declaration of August 18, 2009 (No. 893 / 01-2), the rector, Galina Romanowa, authorized the lecturer at the Department of Economics at this university, Hans-Jürgen Stümpel from Gifhorn, on behalf of the Sochi State University, with institutions Organizations and companies to establish contacts in Germany and to negotiate a cooperation. From this the German representation of the State University of Sochi developed. This representation offers the students lessons in German. In the summer of 2013, the rector and senior staff visited this representation and held discussions with universities and ministries in Lower Saxony .
