The Public Prosecutor's Office Act (StAG) of December 15, 2011 regulates the tasks and organization as well as the service law of public prosecutors and non-public prosecutor employees of the Liechtenstein Public Prosecutor's Office (StA) (Art 1 StAG).

Special statutory provisions on the service law of non-public prosecutor employees in accordance with the State Personnel Act are not changed by the StAG. These provisions continue to take precedence over the StAG (Art 25 StAG).

Purpose of the scheme

The StAG serves in particular to regulate:

  • the tasks, organization and training of public prosecutors;
  • the right to issue instructions;
  • the reporting requirements;
  • of service law;
  • the prosecution's relationship with the courts.

The two main focuses of the StAG are in Sections II (Organization, Art 4 to 24 StAG) and III. (Service law, Art 25 to 51 StAG). The StAG is supplemented by the Liechtenstein Code of Criminal Procedure (StPO) and other special legal provisions.
