The city museum in the Yellow House deals with the history of the former imperial city of Esslingen . The permanent exhibition is supplemented with regular changing exhibitions on topics of city and cultural history.

history

The museum goes back to the initiative of the History and Antiquity Association (GAV). History-conscious citizens of Esslingen decided in 1908 to collect and preserve witnesses of the past. From 1926 the collection was exhibited in the old town hall . The Yellow House has been the seat of the City Museum since 1989. Parts of the city museum are located in the Hafenmarkt 7 building, which has been structurally connected since 1978 , and is one of the oldest residential buildings in the city. The stone residential tower from the 13th century is the only remaining one in Esslingen.

Permanent exhibition

The permanent exhibition presents the history of the city of Esslingen am Neckar and its residents. The tour begins with the first documentary mention in the will of Abbot Fulrad of St. Denis in 777 AD and extends into the middle of the 20th century. The focus is on Esslingen's past as an imperial city. In the Middle Ages, Eßlingen was a rich and powerful wine-growing and trading town. After the transition to Württemberg in 1802, it developed into an important industrial location, characterized by the textile industry, mechanical engineering and metal processing.
