Multimedia introduction to the history of Ghent

The Ghent City Museum (dt .: Ghent City Museum ), short STAM or Bijlokemuseum called, is the city's history museum of the Flemish city of Ghent . It opened on October 9, 2010. With the Bijloke collection as a base and the buildings of the Bijloke Abbey , the STAM as a modern forum preserves the cultural heritage of the city and makes it accessible.

The museum's roots go back to 1833 when the collection of the Oudheidkundig Museum van de Bijloke in Ghent was created. In 1928 this museum was housed in the Bijlokeabtei, hence the name Bijlokemuseum . The Bijloke collection was expanded with pieces from other collections. A new entrance building was then built, designed by the Ghent city architect Koen Van Nieuwenhuyse.

The permanent exhibition of the STAM offers a museum and multimedia introduction for a visit to the city of Ghent and presents its past, present and future. The temporary exhibitions at STAM usually revolve around the phenomenon of urbanity based on current topics.

The Ghent City Museum won the 2012 Flemish Museum Prize.
