Gmunden City Theater

The Stadttheater Gmunden is a theater in the municipality of Gmunden in Upper Austria .

history

The city theater in Theatergasse was opened in 1872 and was owned by the Salzburg theater director Joseph M. Kotzky; in 1918 it was acquired by the city of Gmunden. Since 1913 it has also served as a movie theater, where sound films were shown for the first time from 1931. In 1997 the house was rebuilt and a hall for arthouse cinema was integrated.

Since 2014 the theater has been staging the Gmundner Musicalsprühling , which was initiated by Markus Olzinger , Elisabeth Sikora and Caspar Richter .
