The Feldkirch city tunnel is a planned Template: future / in 2 yearstunnel in the municipalities of Feldkirch and Frastanz in the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . Due to its four tunnel arms, which converge in an underground roundabout, it is also known as the Feldkirch tunnel spider .

history

A connection between Liechtenstein and the Austrian motorway network via a Liechtenstein expressway (S17), which was planned in the 1970s, was not implemented. The last tunnel planned in the 1990s was also heavily criticized. Against this background, the state of Vorarlberg, the city of Feldkirch, the market town of Frastanz and the Principality of Liechtenstein decided to initiate a “consensus-based planning process”. "Variant 5.3" was selected from various models for implementation and submitted on September 11, 2013 for an environmental impact assessment , which was successfully completed in June 2019.

Project data

The four tunnel arms with a total length of 3.95 km are to meet in an underground roundabout with a diameter of 70 m. The total costs were originally estimated at 226.5 million euros, in May 2017 the estimate was increased to 250 million euros.
