history

In 1329 Schrobenhausen , already a central place of the older Bavarian tribal duchy, was granted market rights. In the city war of 1387-1389 , Schrobenhausen was destroyed in 1388. From 1392 it was rebuilt under the partial dukes of Bavaria-Ingolstadt and expanded into a ring-shaped fortress with walls, shell towers and double moats. 1447 was first mentioned as a city.

city wall

Around 1440, the city wall with its unique 12 towers, still preserved in some places, was built. Mostly built of brick, the walls and towers are now white-coated.

Wall as a park

The area was redesigned into a park around 1825 under the leadership of Michael Sommer. The Herzogsburg in the Bering, which has been partially preserved and its moat and rampart area, was included in the redesign. The park area pulls together with parts of the city wall and its towers around the town of Schrobenhausen. The area is a listed building and is planted with around 530 trees, including oak, linden, horse chestnut, elm, ash and maple. At least 20% of today's trees are up to 150 years old, around a third of the trees are over 100 years old. In order to preserve the cityscape shaped by the city wall for future generations, the trees are regularly checked for their health by local tree experts and necessary maintenance measures are carried out. Sick trees are replaced by new plantings.

Moat

In the course of the 19th century, the city ditches were filled in, and gardens of Schrobenhausen citizens were often created here. In 2011 a moat was reopened on the east side of the city.
