Stanhope press

A Stanhope press was the first printing press of the IKZ (today exhibited in the Iserlohn City Museum )

The Stanhope press was an early printing press ; it was invented around 1800 by the British Charles Stanhope .

technology

Like its predecessors, the metal construction used a spindle to build up pressure. She was served by the press boy . What was new, however, was a lever system connected to the villain that increased the pressure. This enabled two folio pages of a set to be printed in one go with little effort.

The press output of around 250 sheets per hour was not much higher than that of the older models, but it was still a further development due to the energy savings. The replacement of the ink balls with ink rollers contributed to easier handling.

Later presses dispensed with the spindle in favor of a lever construction as a pressure force.
