Start box (model making)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A start box describes a jump start aid for internal combustion engines in model construction (small and micro engines), such as B. glow igniter engines . It has a box-shaped structure on which the model ( model car , boat model, etc.) is fixed in a predefined position. When the start box is switched on, a friction roller, which is driven by an electric motor, is pressed against the flywheel of the model internal combustion engine, thereby starting it. While in the past the starter boxes were often self-made and in practice the electric motor was often supplied with energy by a car battery, today there are industrially manufactured starters available (e.g. for the RC car sector).
