Statistical Atlas of Switzerland

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Statistical Atlas of Switzerland is published by the Federal Statistical Office. It comprises (in its online version) around 1500 interactive thematic maps. These illustrate - spread over 24 chapters - statistical data from almost all subject areas of the Federal Statistical Office. The presentation of the spatial disparities and relationships as well as the current data and historical time series on mostly several levels of structure opens up possibilities for comparison for both laypeople and specialist users. The Statistical Atlas of Switzerland is currently available in German and French, an Italian version is planned.

history

In 2003, the first electronic edition of an interactive Statistical Atlas of Switzerland appeared as a CD-ROM supplement to the Statistical Yearbook of Switzerland (later DVD). While the Statistical Atlas of Switzerland has since supplemented the annual editions of the Statistical Atlas of Switzerland as a DVD, it has also been available as a separate product in the form of an online atlas since 2009. Both as a DVD and in the online version, the atlas is updated at least once a year as part of a new edition of the "Statistical Yearbook of Switzerland" at the beginning of the year. The Statistical Atlas of Switzerland has also been available as an iPad version in the Apple Store since 2011.

Legal basis

With the revision of the Federal Law on Geoinformation of October 5, 2007 and its implementing provisions in the Ordinance on Land Surveying of May 21, 2008, the creation of national atlases - and explicitly the management of the Statistical Atlas of Switzerland by the Federal Statistical Office - was declared a federal task .
