The Stefanites ( Daqiqa Estifānos ) are a monastic community within the Ethiopian Orthodox Church .

It was founded in 1428 by Estifānos (~ 1397 to 1476) in Tigray . Initially suspicious of the imperial court and the major Ethiopian church for political and religious reasons and persecuted for a long time, the head of the monastery, Gabra Masih, brought peace and recognition to his monastery association around 1514 with an orthodox creed.
