Stephan V (Pope)
Stephan V (VI.) († September 14, 891 in Rome ) was Pope from 885 until his death.
He became Pope in December - without consulting the East Franconian King Charles III. the fat man , who then refused to support him in the fight against the Saracens .
Stephan V then turned to Duke Guido von Spoleto , the most powerful prince of Italy at the time. After the death of Charles III. he was forced to crown Guido von Spoleto emperor .
count
In an alternative count, the priest Stephen II , who was elected Pope but died before his episcopal ordination, is recognized as Pope. As a result, all other popes with this name are counted with a higher number, i.e. Stephan V as Stephan VI. - In specialist literature, the spelling Stephan V (VI.) Is often used to avoid misunderstandings .
