Stephan von Nepi (Latin Stephanus Nepesinus) (* around 868, † around 896) was bishop of the Italian community of Nepi .

Life

Little is known about his life.

In 867 he was banished from Rome by Emperor Ludwig II, together with Johannes Hymmonides and Gauderich von Velletri , but pardoned at the request of Pope Hadrian II at the beginning of the following year.

Later he belonged together with Johannes Hymmonides and Anastasius Bibliothecarus to the papal embassy at the Fourth Council of Constantinople (869-870), on which, among other things, the case of the Patriarch of Constantinople Photios' I was negotiated. Some time later he was excommunicated and condemned in Rome by Hadrian in the presence of Stephen.

Before the Council of Constantinople (879-880), however, he supported the rehabilitation of Photios I with the approval of Pope John VIII.
