Wiesbaden observatory

The Wiesbaden observatory is a school and public observatory operated by an amateur astronomical association - the Astronomical Society Urania e. V. Wiesbaden  - is operated. The observatory building is located on the Martin-Niemöller-Schule in Bierstadter Straße 47 in Wiesbaden .

history

Originally the observatory was housed in the Orange School in the city center, which had existed there since the beginning of the 20th century. In 1976 they moved to the new observatory building on the hill in Bierstadter Strasse, whose location offers significantly better observation conditions. The observatory consists of an observation and a lecture room and was supplemented in 1984 by an additional building with observation and storage rooms.

The Wiesbaden observatory regularly offers public sky observations, lectures and courses. In addition, an astronomical week takes place once a year .

Instruments

The main instrument is an apochromatic high-performance refractor with 206 mm aperture and 1575 mm focal length. There is also a refractor with a 120 mm aperture and 1800 mm focal length, a Maksutov reflector telescope with a 300 mm aperture and 4800 mm focal length and smaller telescopes for observation.
