Sthaviravāda

Sthaviravāda ( Sanskrit ) is an early form in Buddhism, resp. Forerunner of Theravāda .

The sthaviravāda is a conservative direction of the Sangha that emerged from a schism about the perfection of the arhat . Formed in conflict with the Mahasanghikas , split about 280 BC. The Vatsiputriyas and about 40 years later the Sarvastivadins . A later name of the followers is Vibhajvavādins .
