Stochastic system

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A stochastic system is a system in which the current state, in contrast to a deterministic dynamic system, only indicates a probability distribution for the following states. So it cannot be predicted with certainty what state the system will assume next. The states form a stochastic process . Seen in this way, a deterministic process can be seen as a borderline case of a stochastic process with the following probability distribution:

1 for the next predetermined state
0 all other states
