Straight through processing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term through data processing (DDV) or English straight through processing (STP) describes:

  • in computer science a concept of information processing with as few interactions as possible and avoidance of media breaks .
  • in the economy a business model in which incoming orders are processed within the framework of integrated and cross-company processes in the sense of e-business with minimal interaction effort.

Explanations

Business process integration in computer science should enable straight through processing with the help of enterprise application integration methods and with the help of web technologies for communication with partners and customers. STP in business is therefore closely linked to the meaning of this term in computer science, as only the technologies for business process integration enable corresponding business models .

Examples in practice

In the business environment, STP was an important topic in the banking sector, especially in the 1990s. While in the past the different types of transactions (e.g. transfer processes) repeatedly required manual work, the need for end-to-end automation of the processes (the STP) has become increasingly important. With the STP, money or securities transactions could be processed and concluded on the same day.

While STP served to optimize batch runs and chains, the paradigm of online transaction processing ( OLTP) emerged , which provided for the online processing of transactions.
