The Strasser (D / 0023) or the strass pigeon is a domestic pigeon breed and is one of the most famous shape pigeons .

Appearance

The animals are characterized by a short, stocky and voluminous shape with a large, round head with a broad forehead. The iris of the eyes is expected to be orange-red to red, the chest is full. Rhinestone pigeons should have a broad, deep stance and under no circumstances should their tail be supported on the ground, but should carry it freely. Particularly large and massive pigeons can have a live weight of up to 1 kg. In Germany rhinestone pigeons are ringed with rings of diameter D10 (1 cm) as standard. The " Gazzi drawing " is characteristic of strass pigeons , which is also known as the "Strasser drawing" because of its popularity. As you can see in the pictures, birds with this drawing have a colored head, colored wings and wings, and colored tail plumage, while the rest of the plumage remains white.

It should be noted that Strasser, contrary to the truism that bulky pigeons are plump and careless in brood care, make good parents and are by no means dependent on the nursing service of small and light breeds, but rather incubate their eggs reliably and also care for the nestlings in an exemplary manner . With good framework conditions, approx. 4 to 5 clutches per season can be expected.

The following colors are based on surprisingly few hereditary factors, many of which also represent alleles. Primarily these are the basic colors excluding the brown pigment, recesive red, the drawing facilities (e.g. binding and hammering), the spreading factor for color, the dilution factor d (dilution) and various factors that cause local plumage discoloration (e.g. . Dominant Opal).

At the moment there are the colors blue without ties, blue with black ties, blue hammered, blue-dark hammered, (recesive) red and yellow, Blaufahl without ties, Blaufahl with dark ties, blue-steel hammered, blue-steel-dark-hammered, red-pale without ties, red-pale with ties, red-pale-hammered, red-pale, Yellow-white with no binding, yellow-white with binding, yellow-white-hammered, yellow-white-dark-hammered, blue with white binding, light blue with white binding, black with white binding, red with white binding, yellow with white binding, blue and white scaled, light blue and white scaled, black lined, red lined and yellow lined.

The rhinestone pigeon is the result of matings between Florentines , pitter pigeons and field pigeons . It was bred around 1850 in Moravia in the then Austrian Empire . It is still popular with breeders today, especially in the Czech Republic , Germany and Austria . Close relatives from the time of breeding are the Bohemian pigeon (which is the original form of the strasser ), the Moravian strasser and the Prachener Kanik .
