A curry comb is a simple tool for grooming animals with fur, especially horse care . With the harrow the fur is brushed against the grain and thereby roughly cleaned and the muscles massaged. The harrow may only be used on muscular parts of the body.

After grooming, the fur is cleaned clean with a grooming brush and smoothed out. Harrows are made of either rubber, plastic or metal that have serrated ribs.

The word Striegel is derived from the Latin Strigilis , a narrow, curved instrument used in daily personal hygiene with which the Romans in antiquity had the sweat and dirt scraped off their previously oiled body.
