A first- year student place is a term from the capacity management of the ministries of education and universities of the German federal states and the practiced capacity law. Due to the expected number of students following the Abitur after twelve years , new regulations are being sought in several countries.

Capacity law regulates the number of places available at universities. Freshmen course and place of study in the sense of the capacity of law two orders of magnitude to denote capacities. A first-year student place corresponds to 3 to 4 times a study place.
