Subfertility

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under subfertility is defined as the limited procreation or ability to conceive in men or women.

Slight subfertility occurs when pregnancy fails to occur even though unprotected and fertilization -oriented intercourse has taken place for six cycles of the woman . If the desire to have children remains unfulfilled after twelve cycles, one speaks of severe subfertility.

The most common causes of subfertility in women are malfunction of the ovaries or fallopian tubes . In men, the number or motility of the sperm may not be correct. No definitive cause can be found in at least a quarter of the couples. Furthermore, the two partners mutually influence each other if a slight reproductive impairment in one partner only leads to subfertility because the other partner cannot compensate for it.

If a pregnancy does not occur within a year despite unprotected sexual intercourse, it is referred to as infertility .
