Subject matter expert
A Subject Matter Expert (SME) is a person who is a subject matter expert in a particular domain or area or topic. An SME can be anyone who has acquired deep knowledge in a specific area, such as mechanical engineering , science , journalism , law or marketing . A subject expert is thus an expert with special knowledge or skills in a certain area of activity (for example an accountant is an expert in the field of bookkeeping ).
The term has its origins in project management and was introduced in the Six Sigma project management concept.
