Supplemental Restraint System

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS; German " Supplementary Restraint System "), also erroneously called the safety restraint system , describes the unit made up of various passive safety elements in automotive engineering. It should ensure optimal occupant safety in the event of a crash. Airbag covers are usually labeled with SRS .

In particular, the interaction of the seat belt tensioner with the airbag is dependent on a functioning SRS, as both components can only fully fulfill their safety function with exact timing.

The permanent lighting of the SRS indicator light in the instrument cluster indicates a defect in the system. This also occurs after an accident in which, for example, the belt tensioner was ignited.
