According to various information from the Ravensburger Verlag and other sources, Surakarta is a Javanese board game named after the Indonesian city of Surakarta . So far, however, the game cannot be proven as a traditional Javanese board game by a reliable source. Information on the age and historical records well before the publication by Ravensburger are not known.

history

It is stated in the references that in Java this game was originally played with shells as game pieces, with the lines drawn in the sand.

regulate

multi-colored game pieces

Two players play against each other. The first player chooses 12 stones of his color and places them on the black points at the intersection of the lines on his side. The opponent in turn places 12 white stones on the white dots on his side of the game board.

One stone is drawn alternately per round. With each move you either just move or capture a stone from your opponent.

In the case of a simple move without hitting, you may move forward or backward in either a horizontal, vertical or even diagonal direction to any free adjacent point.

In the case of a capturing move, the stone moves along a line over several unoccupied spaces - whereby the journey must lead over at least one of the arcs - until it hits an opposing stone, which the player can then remove.

The loser is someone who has run out of stones. To determine the result, you add the stones you hit to your own stones that are still in play.
