Sveriges Facköversättarförening (SFÖ) (Swedish Association of Specialized Translators) is Sweden's largest professional organization for specialist translators.

history

The SFÖ was founded in 1990. It has (as of 2019) around a thousand members. The tasks of the association include exchanging experiences and knowledge among specialist translators, representing common economic and legal interests and providing information on developments in the field of professional translation. The SFÖ also works actively to emphasize the professional role of translators in society. He helps to network translators on the one hand and clients on the other; To this end, the association operates a searchable database in which translators can be searched for by language combination and / or subject area.

A large part of the work of the association is carried out by working groups, for example the court of honor, the mentor group, the training group and various language groups. The association has been chaired by translator Elin Nauri Skymbäck since January 2018.

The SFÖ regularly conducts courses and webinars as well as local conferences. Every year, in connection with the general assembly of the association, a large specialist conference takes place at different locations in Sweden. The association publishes the magazine "Facköversättaren" four times a year.

Since 2016 the SFÖ has been co-organizer of the biennial conference Scandinavian Language Associations' Meeting (SLAM!); The Scandinavian sister organizations Föreningen Auktoriserade Translatorer (FAT), Norsk fagoversetterforening (NORFAG), Finlands översättar- och tolkförbund (FÖTF), Statsautoriserte translatørers forening (STF) including Rättstolkarna are also involved .
