Scintillation

Scintillation (from Latin scintillare : "sparkle, flicker") means:

• the apparent changes in brightness of a star caused by the earth's atmosphere, see scintillation (astronomy) ;
• the emission of light ( photons ), which happens when atoms or molecules in a material excited by radioactive or other radiation pass into a lower state, see scintillation (radiation physics ) .
