The Turkish Community of Switzerland (TGS, Turkish: Isvicre Türk Toplumu, ITT ) is the umbrella organization for most of the Turkish associations and federations in Switzerland. It is designed as an independent NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) . Its activities are based on the Swiss Civil Code (ZGB Art. 60 ff).

Situation of the Turks in Switzerland

Around 130,000 people of Turkish origin live in Switzerland today, over 40,000 of whom are Swiss citizens. You have been coming to Switzerland since the early 1960s to study or to find work. The oldest representatives of the first generation are already of retirement age and some of them are returning home. The TGS wants to deal primarily with the concerns and problems of the second and third generation and support them in their integration into Swiss society, as the majority of them will remain in Switzerland.

In order to facilitate integration, the Swiss organizations and authorities want to better record and understand the concerns, needs and problems of various ethnic groups in order to find common solutions for a harmonious coexistence in Switzerland. The TGS understands itself in dealing with various problems of the Turkish community and theirs Integration into Swiss society as a partner to the relevant Swiss institutions.

Goals of the TGS

The aim of the community is to record the problems and needs of the Turks in Switzerland and to work with them and the Swiss organizations to develop solution concepts and to contribute to improving training and increasing the educational level of the second and third generation.

Communication and cultural exchange between the Turkish community and Swiss society should be promoted and misunderstandings and prejudices on both sides should be eliminated. The integration of Turkish citizens into Swiss society, i.e. a harmonious coexistence of both societies while observing common rules (rights and obligations) and mutual respect, is one of the goals of the TGS, as is the representation of the Turks vis-à-vis the Swiss and Turkish authorities and organizations in general Questions like training, upbringing, integration and culture.

In order to be able to achieve these goals, various working groups have been formed within the TGS.
