Taeniasis is a parasitic infection in humans caused by tapeworms of the genus Taenia , especially pork and beef tapeworms . Worldwide, the number of people infected is in the double-digit million range.

The incubation period is up to ten weeks. The infection is often asymptomatic.

Niclosamide or praziquantel can be used for therapy .

For prophylaxis, meat should be heated before consumption. In the industrialized countries, the disease is insignificant due to the examination of slaughtered cattle and pigs for fins (meat inspection).
