The Djorf Torba dam ( French Barrage de Djorf Torba ; Arabic سد جرف التربة, DMG Sadd Ǧurf at-Turba ) is located in Algeria in the municipality of Kenadsa , province of Bechar . It dams the Oued Guir into a reservoir. The city of Bechar is located approx. 70 km east of the dam.
The dam was built from 1966 to 1968. It is used for irrigation and drinking water supply.
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a dam wall with a height of 37 (or 38) m and a crown length of 762 m.
Reservoir
When the reservoir is fully blocked, it extends over an area of around 57.15 km² and holds 350 (or 360) million m³ of water. In 2005 the storage capacity was 190 million m³.
80% of the drinking water in the city of Bechar comes from the reservoir. The annual inflow into the reservoir is around 100 million m³, of which 16 million m³ are used for the drinking water supply of the city of Bechar and 50 million m³ for irrigation purposes. Evaporation is very high due to the arid climate, and the reservoir is also affected by siltation.
