Tamaryokucha ( Japanese 玉 緑茶 , Tama [= precious stone], ryoku [= green] and cha [= tea]) is a green tea from Japan . Also known under the name Guricha ( ぐ り 茶 , Guri [= curly, crinkled]), its leaves are more like a Chinese green tea than the stretched leaves of a Japanese green tea. Tamaryokucha has a Japanese profile thanks to its intense, grassy taste, reminiscent of berries and almonds. Thanks to the low tannin and bitter substances , this tea is good for beginners, but is also popular with connoisseurs. The Tamaryokucha is not rolled into a needle-shaped shape like the Sencha , but the tea leaves are left in their original, comma-shaped form.

Cultivation

High quality Tamaryokucha is grown on the southernmost island of Japan, in Kyūshū . The Ureshino region in particular has successful tea plantations. It is a small annual production, which makes the tea a specialty. Tamaryokucha is also grown today in Saga , Nagasaki and Kumamoto prefectures .

preparation

As usual with green tea, the tea is infused with hot water at around 80 ° C and left to steep for one minute. The tea leaves allow several infusions.
