Tamilnet

Tamilnet is a website with news and articles on the current situation in Sri Lanka , previously also with particular reference to the civil war in Sri Lanka . The website was set up by members of the Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora in the United States and publishes articles in English, previously also in French and German.

His reports were previously seen as the views of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), which was listed as a terrorist organization in many countries .

Although not officially affiliated with the rebel organization, it was viewed as an LTTE propaganda tool.

According to Article 19 , a London-based human rights organization, it is a popular news website that journalists, society in general and diplomatic circles both in Sri Lanka and around the world see as a credible source of news for the views and perspectives of the LTTE leadership , also concerning the civil war. Tamilnet and non-governmental organizations such as Free Media Movement (FMM), Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and Article 19 reported that the website was banned in Sri Lanka.
