Tanz-Kastanie Hitzacker
The Hitzacker dance chestnut , also known as the giant chestnut , was a protected natural monument in Hitzacker (Elbe) , a town in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony .
The chestnut , whose age is given as 258-300 years, was a symbol of the city for many years. It had a circumference of 4.40 meters and a crown diameter of about 30 meters.
In the summer of 2012 the dance chestnut broke apart. A torso is documented photographically for the year 2008.
The chestnut is (no longer) included in the list of natural monuments in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district .
