Rubato dance company
The Berlin dance company Rubato was founded in 1985 by Jutta Hell and Dieter Baumann.
Between 1983 and 1986 they carried out joint studies in Paris ( mime corporel ), London ( Laban movement studies ), Tokyo ( Butoh ) and New York. Since then, Rubato has developed over 40 pieces that have been shown on numerous tours around the world. From 1990–92 they worked with Gerhard Bohner and in 1992 received the sponsorship award for performing arts from the Academy of Arts (Berlin) . In 1993 and 1997 co-productions with the “Steirischer Herbst” in Graz / Austria and in 1995 a choreography for the Guangdong Modern Dance Cie. in Guangzhou / China. From 2000 to 2002 he worked again in China (Beijing, Hong Kong and Shanghai). Since then, u. a. the international project “Duty Free” (2001) with dancers from China, Estonia, Canada and Germany, as well as “Person to Person” (2002), a duet with Dieter Baumann and the Chinese star dancer Jin Xing , and in 2003 “Zukunft_erinnern. Baumann_Bohner_Solo with video fragment ”(on behalf of the Academy of Arts, Berlin). In 2004 the piece “AMERICA! QUESTION “developed and toured with six American dancers. In 2005 two commissioned works were realized as co-productions with the Jin Xing Dance Theater, Shanghai, for the House of World Cultures, Berlin SHANGHAI BEAUTY and EIDOS_TAO. Also a work commissioned by the “steirischer herbst 2005” in Graz, Austria.
