Pigeon tower (kirkmichael)

The pigeon tower of Kirkmichael is a pigeon tower near the Scottish town of Kirkmichael in the Council Area South Ayrshire . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

The tower is isolated around two kilometers southeast of Kirkmichael. The year of construction 1762 is indicated on the lintel of the entrance door. The masonry of the round structure consists of large blocks of rubble granite . The gaps are filled in with smaller fragments of flint. The tower has a vaulted ceiling on the ground floor . The roof has collapsed in the meantime and the tower has only survived as a ruin. A tree grows inside. Due to the poor structural condition, the pigeon tower was included in the Scottish register for endangered listed buildings in 2008. His condition was last classified as ruinous in 2012, but with a moderate risk of deterioration.
