Immersion body process

A small sewage treatment plant with submersible disc process in the BDZ Leipzig.

The immersion process is a form of wastewater treatment . Here, a trickling filter called a settlement area for sessile microorganisms is immersed in the bioreactor . By rotating the immersion body (discs in the case of the disc immersion body, other shapes in the case of the rotation immersion body), part of the vegetation surface emerges cyclically from the wastewater and can absorb the oxygen from the atmosphere. Shear forces during the rotary movement detach excessively thick biofilms from the vegetation area; these are separated from the treated wastewater in a subsequent part of the system during secondary treatment.
