Taxi was a British pop group that released four albums between 1977 and 1979.

history

When the Bay City Rollers achieved worldwide success from 1974 onwards , mainly English producers brought competing bands onto the music market who were able to record short to medium-term successes. The most successful representatives were Kenny , Hello and Slik . The two English composers and producers Dave Hunt and Colin Frechter performed in 1976 with Paul DeBiase (vocals, guitar), Ross Burgess (guitar, vocals), Phil Polcaro (guitar, vocals), Joe DeBiase (bass, vocals) and Pasquale Polcaro (drums ) a young group together with whom they consciously concentrated on the lucrative German market.

In order to attract the interest of young German music consumers to their group Taxi, the sales price was set very low: The first LP First , released in spring 1977, was released on the Europa label and was available for purchase for 6.00 DM. It cost as much as the first single You Got Your Way In The End OK. The single was placed in some radio hit parades and brought Taxi a respectable success, the LP sold tens of thousands of times. The group achieved similar success with the album Do You Love Me , released in late 1977, and the two singles Do You Love Me / Sha La La Lee and Gonna Be A Star . Several appearances on German television followed, the German press reported on the group and celebrated it as the successor to the Bay City Rollers. However, the success was short-lived.

Their third LP Taxi , which was released by EMI Electrola , and the singles Goodbye Caroline and Back On The Road Again , which were released from it , only met with little audience response. After another LP called "I'm The One" in 1979, the group disappeared from the scene without any further records.
