Taborda Theater

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Teatro Taborda is a theater building in the center of the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, north of the Castelo de São Jorge . It was built in 1870 according to plans by the architect Domingos Parente da Silva . It is named after the actor Taborda .

In the 1920s, the theater business increasingly gave way to radio stations such as Rádio Continental, Rádio Restauração or Rádio Hertz, which were located in the building. In 1965 the city of Lisbon bought the building to set up a municipal theater. These plans were abandoned and the house began to deteriorate. Repairs were carried out from 1980 and the theater reopened on June 1, 1995 as a cultural center.

The Teatro do Garagem has been located there since 2005 .
