telcom c4

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

telcom c4 is a compander for noise reduction in professional audio systems. The system was developed by Telefunken and presented in autumn 1975.

telcom c4 has a linear characteristic and can reduce interference levels by up to 25 dB . Four bands are compressed independently of each other. In addition, the release times can be adjusted differently for each low pass. It can easily be reached up to 85 dB. For example, a CD has a dynamic range of 92 dB. With telcom c4 almost CD quality is achieved.

Expander and compressor must be symmetrical and linear. Due to the linearity, tapes can be used on different telcom machines with different nominal levels (level independence).
