Telementor

Telementor is the type name of an inexpensive astronomical school telescope that has been produced by Zeiss Jena and Jenoptik since around 1980 . Its features are the simple, robust design with high optical quality.

The telescope has an achromatic Zeiss C lens with an aperture of 63 mm (focal length 84 cm) or, in a larger version, around 80 mm. The basic mounting is azimuthal on a tripod, but can be extended to equatorial . Instead of a finderscope, the telescope is equipped with a sight for didactic and price reasons.

The standard eyepiece (f = 16 mm) delivers 55x magnification, tests on double stars with 150x came up to the theoretical resolution of 1.8 ". The air turbulence in urban surroundings is usually just as much, so here the relatively small telescope opening with regard to the Resolution is hardly a disadvantage, but due to the small absolute aperture , the Telementor is very faint and therefore only conditionally suitable for observing many deep sky objects.

The telescope was widely used in the former Eastern Bloc . After the reunification, it also found interested parties in the West (price only around 500–700 DM). B. recommended by the Austrian Astro Association as inexpensive initial equipment for amateur astronomers .

A further development with automatic tracking was given the name Telemator .
