Test of Written English

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Test of Written English ( TWE ) is a separately assessed test that is taken together with the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). The result of this test is not included in the total TOEFL score, but is also noted on the evaluation.

The candidate is assigned a topic on which a short essay has to be written in 30 minutes. The topic is general so everyone should be able to write about it. Both content and linguistic expression are assessed, with the latter being given significantly greater weight.

In contrast to the TOEFL, notes can be made here.
